I forgot to blog yesterday….So I’ll try to make up for it.

Yesterday’s class started as normal, but then we had a guest speaker from the LA Times blogs, Tony Pierce. Tony was hilalrious. He liked to talk about anything and everything.

He showed us an interview he got to do with Bruce Willis, about his new vodka. Then Tony explained how he started by buttering him up and then he actually went into the questions. It was a really good (and funny) way to deal with a difficult interview, and that was really helpful.

Tony’s visit really showed us how there is a future with journalism on the internet, especially if you stay persistent and write about everything.

Day two.

Got an email from Mrs. Zoet and it turns out our school paper is going to be on Word Press this year, so it looks like I am actually going to understand what I am doing online next year and that makes me  a little less nervous.

Got a visit from one Jim Villanueva today. He was really interesting to listen to. Very big into passion, persistance, and patience, or the “Three Ps” as he liked to call them. The first and second of the P’s? Easy peasy lemon squeezy. The third? Um…

Learned how to make a soundslide which was really interesting. It’s a lot like iMovie to me and after spending a summer of boredom learning how to master that program freshman year just so I could make a video to “Shake it” by Metrostation, it seems like soundslides are going to be pretty easy to handle.

After thinking that the Villanueva story was due today I beast-ed out a story, and nervously tried to finish it before 3:30. That was when I was told it was due tomorrow….. oopsies.

First Days, they just never sit well with me. That’s probably why I found myself eating a chocolate chip bagel while my mom drove me to Newspapers2 this morning, even though in her mind, I am a perfectly self-sufficient 17 year old with my own license and car. But no matter what I might have explained to her about the need to carpool and ‘go green’, I really just had a feeling I was going to get lost someway, somehow, and hence the need for her to drive me. But what can I say?  I’ve just never been that gung ho about first days.

Even though this morning started off with a rude alarm clock, a broken usb drive, and the lack of sleep caused by a Veronica Mars marathon the night before, the rest of the day went by smoothly. Our web design class is pretty small, but that is how I like my classes, and if you add in the fact that our on-campus eating establishment serves veggie burgers then I would say I have hit the first day jackpot.

And then day ended with a surprise visit from mother earth. Or at least what many thought was mother earth. Our “earthquakes” were caused by a group of surveyors from the Signal Hill Geophysical Survey and their big trucks (aka our first breaking news story). I, the video taper, got some shots of the trucks rolling and doing what they do best, surveying. Although the loud noise coming from these trucks caused quite the inconvience the story was a nice way to get the ball rolling for the rest of the week. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store! Hopefully it’s not me getting lost on the 405, since I actually have to drive myself.
